Smena. Center of contemporary culture

An independent project started in Kazan in that relies neither on state nor on private sponsorship. Smena is a cultural cluster that includes a contemporary art gallery, lecture halls and a bookstore, they publish books and organize city-wide events. To date, they have held 8 book festivals and have collaborated with the Zhivoy Gorod Foundation organizing the Iskra Festival of Art and Local Culture, and the Rudnik Festival of Debut Documentary Film.

Gallery

The gallery offers frequent exhibitions of contemporary painting, photography, graphic and installations. Two floors give you an opportunity to observe works by famous international and Russian artists including ones from Kazan. Exhibitions are totally renewed every two months.

Book Shop

The shop sells books by independent Russian publishers that you can find on the shel ves of chain stores. Enjoy the widest choice of interesting children’s books, new native and world fiction, editions on cultur e, rare art books and acute non-fiction.

Lecture Hall

Our program includes open discussions, lectures, books presentations, runs of live-Action and documentary films. The speakers are representatives from the spheres of science, art, literature, cinema and architecture.

Record Store

Siyanie is an independent record shop located in the center of contemporary culture Smena. The store features new and used records of all genres – classic rock, folk, alternative, punk, hardcore, soviet pop, jazz, hip-hop, OST and others. In addition to vinyl, you can find CDs and tapes of local musicians.
